Expanding the Mind

It’s been a while since I’ve updated this blog, but I’ve recently picked up two new “hobbies” in my spare time.

First I’ve started to learn Python. This is something I’ve wanted to do for a while now since it claims to be platform independent and I’ve heard that it can be integrated into Maya and 3D Studio Max. Huge plus!
So far, the language is pretty easy to pick up if you’re at all familiar with the general logic of scripting/programming. It does have some interesting gotchas though.

I’m also participating in Stanford University’s “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence” online course. AI Class
I’m about a week in so far, and already I can see the value of the information regarding animation in video games. Even though AI is a programming specialty, it really helps to share some basic knowledge between the disciplines; especially regarding what will and won’t work.
It’s an incredible opportunity and a great gift from Stanford for offering the material for this class for free.
